Vintage and retro are apparently synonyms, but they actually have different meanings.

Vintage derives from Old French vendenge (from the Latin word vindemia, i.e. harvest), which in turn indicates wines of fine vintage. In fact, vintage also designates 20+ years-old cult objects, usually made of high quality materials, that have marked costume and culture so much, that they are still considered precious and inimitable, even after decades.

The term retro, however, pays homage to a specific era with more recent elements: a chair, a dress, an accessory recently produced, that refers to a specific cult period of History. This is why a new object, although reminiscent of the past, will never be called vintage but retro. Retro is the simultaneous ability to reinterpret the best of the past, while drawing inspiration from it for the future.
